Our Growing Family
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
— Theodore Roosevelt
No matter what ESCON division you are working with, the employees in the office are here to make sure you get the answers you seek.
Xan Sponseller, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, strives each and every day to provide an environment for personal growth for each person on the team. ESCON is a place made up of individuals full of talent that is combined to create a real team, Xan says. “At ESCON, it’s our people that make the difference. Everyone focuses on the customer experience … insisting on making the experience the best it can be. This is also a place where the community spirit is alive and well. Everyone consistently use their strengths and abilities to improve their communities.” Xan leads the company by example, educating herself on the best practices of leadership and inspiring each team member to do the same by staying current on trends and advancements within their positions. Outside of work, Xan enjoys exercising, hiking and traveling to see her 6 children and now her ever-growing number of grandchildren.
Bill Sponseller is the company’s Chief Financial Officer. From his studies at Northwood University earning his BBA Degree to the many positions he had at The Dow Chemical Company, he was well positioned to financially guide the business. When the opportunity for him and Xan to succeed ownership of the company, it was a very natural step. For Bill to have his dream job and to be able to do it with his high school sweetheart could only be made better by being surrounded by a great group of people while doing it … Wait … It is all true … ESCON is all of that and more! Bill enjoys all of the hiking and travelling to see his children and grandchildren with Xan … Just add in some horses and downhill skiing and you have it.
A love for helping people is what drives Craig Taunt, ESCON’s Chief Operations Officer. Craig joined ESCON in 2016 when his Gladwin-based firm merged into ESCON. Craig’s father, Willard Taunt, opened Taunt Electric in 1968 with a focus on residential electrical services. While his dad was establishing the business, Craig was working at area hospitals as an orderly, respiratory therapist and Emergency Medical Technician. In 1972, though, his father called for help. Craig made the difficult decision to leave medicine and go into the family business.
It’s a decision he’s never regretted. Craig walked into a company focused on strictly electrical services for homes. Within a short time, he expanded Taunt to do work for banks and high-rise apartment buildings. Today, he’s a Master Electrician and holds a contractor’s license. He joined Taunt with ESCON in order to expand what Taunt could offer customers. Joining ESCON gave Taunt access to fiber optics, security and more. “What I enjoy about the job is meeting the people and figuring out what I can do to make the project better.” Joining forces with ESCON gives him more resources to improve every project.
Craig is married with grown children. He and his wife enjoy camping, boating and playing golf.
Neil Samyn, COSS
Quality & Safety Manager
Job Cost Analyst
Neil Samyn, recently appointed Safety/Quality Control Manager for ESCON, knew from his first job at a hardware store that he wanted to work with his hands. He wasn’t sure exactly what hands-on career he would choose, but he knew he loved working with tools. Neil earned an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Electricity from Delta College. He went on to complete an electrical apprenticeship, where he really learned his craft.
He’s been a journeyman electrician since 2005. He joined Thomas Electric in 2011. Neil works with industrial, commercial and residential electrical. He is working toward earning Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) status. Neil has completed OSHA-10 and OSHA-30 training as well as CPR and First Aid training.
As the father of young children, Neil acknowledges the importance of formal schooling. However, he also said he wants young people to understand how much can be learned only through apprenticeships, hands-on training and experience. In his free time, Neil spends time with his family and coaches in the Essexville Hampton Little League.
Dan Bouchard loves the variety of work he does as the Facilities/Vehicle Manager for ESCON. He focuses on mechanical and safety issues for the building, grounds and vehicles. Dan joined ESCON in 2016, after 15 years working as the chief water plant mechanic for a municipality. He is married with 4 children. In his free time, he enjoys camping, hunting, snowmobiling and mud-bogging.
If you have questions about taking care of your generator, Gustin Sponseller is the one you need to talk to. Gustin schedules all the service and maintenance calls for the ESCON Generator division. He’s been part of the company for about 3 years and expects to finish his Bachelor’s Degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management at Northwood University in spring 2016. Before working for ESCON, Gustin worked as an electrical engineering CAD drafter; at a call center representative; and as a homebuilder. He’s from Michigan, but has lived in California and Utah. “I love the small business world,” Gustin said. “I love the development and the intimacy of a small business.” When not working, Gustin has school work, a wife and an infant to keep him busy.
